second couplet was way better than some of the stuff out there...!
one knows this somehow, but is there a way to explain the fine line between something being filmi rather than poetry...

Don't know! Only few, like Gulzar, can explain. You might agree that not all film songs are 'filmi' songs. I reserve this term exclusively for the songs I don't find poetic.. either because they lack in idea, or because of the unnecessary and forced multi-level rhyming.. like here in 'ojhal' and 'pal'. Had I been serious on writing a poem, I would've tried to present it differently.
